Sport Wellington assesses exercise groups for older people, as part of Live Stronger For Longer, the New Zealand Government's Prevent Falls & Fractures Program.

Having been assessed by Sport Wellington in March 2018, Andrew Hardwick's "Not Strictly Tai Chi" program meets The Nine Community Strength & Balance Effectiveness Criteria, established by the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to reduce falls in older people. 

Our 'Not Strictly Tai Chi' Program is now an Approved Strength & Balance Program, and so can display "The Tick" as an approved provider.

Note: We can also bring one of our Not Strictly Tai Chi, Approved Strength & Balance Programs to your establishment or organisation. Please note that qualifying classes have to run for a minimum of 10 weeks duration!

Sometimes called "Meditation In Motion", Tai Chi promotes serenity & inner peace. Whereas many other clubs and instructors may teach you Tai Chi for self-defence and sports competition, the coaching you will receive with us will instead focus upon the health benefits

Our speciality is to help change unwanted or unhealthy habits, through the practice of tai chi.  

The first thing my tai chi students learn is patience with themselves and others, as the regular practice of tai chi requires dedication over time. We focus upon the correct posture, pace of motion and weight transfer during the performance of moves, called "Forms".  Breath control may be affected over time, so we teach ways to increase breath capacity too.

The name of our public classes is "Not Strictly Tai Chi". They include some traditional tai chi forms, some modern forms and some forms modified for specific health conditions, plus codition-specific exercise and mindfulness
