"I consulted Andrew for weight loss. He helped me to strengthen my willpower to eat more healthily and only to eat when I was actually hungry rather than snacking unnecessarily. I have lost 3kg in 3 weeks."

Addictions & Habits

Hypnosis For Addictions & To Change Habits

George was a gambler, and asked me to help him with his choice to stop gambling, with hypnosis

Testimony recorded & published with the full permission of George, after 1 month of not gambling

An addiction is a compulsive behaviour over which you have little or no conscious control.

Addictive behaviour comes in many forms, such as the compulsive consumption of alcohol, food, or drugs, for example nicotine. Another form of addiction is the compulsive repetition of behaviour such as gambling or computer gaming.  The causes of addiction vary, but most begin as a form of either stress releif or social compliance.

Social compliance implies that we modify the things we do in order to fit in with our peers, for instance to enjoy a social drink together or a smoking break. But before we know it, the subject of that social compliance, whether it is alcohol, nicotine or drugs, becomes a habit.  Then the habit becomes a compulsion, and eventually an addiction.

In the case of stress releif, there is an extra addictive component in the emotional release which accompanies the ingestion of a substance. For example, caffeine acts as an "upper" to give you energy in the morning, whilst the nicotine in cigarettes can act as a "downer", which enables you to relax. Comfort eating and "drinking to forget" are also addictive behaviours, driven by the emotional reward they provide.

Addictive behaviours can be changed by hypnosis.

Testimonial: Hypnosis for Addiction to Chocolate

Before Christmas I was having difficulty in losing the last 1.5kg of 5kg. This was mainly due to my chocolate addiction. I had 2 sessions with Andy, and after the first session I didn't want to eat chocolate. I didn't have the compulsion anymore. He was at all times very professional and very reassuring. I now use his techniques to get to sleep at night

Some addictions will require medical intervention, particularly where drugs are involved. As a therapist, I cannot and will not advise you to go against medical advice or to discontinue prescribed medications. If in doubt, consult your physician.
